Karla was born in Tijuana, Mexico, but immigrated to San Diego with her family in 1997, where she grew up in the South Bay. She obtained a Bachelor’s in Business and Global Politics from Arizona State University after spending a semester abroad in Florence, Italy and taking courses in business, law, and globalization. After graduating from Arizona State, Karla decided to return home to San Diego to attend law school.
Karla was admitted to the University of San Diego School of Law (“USD”). During her time in law school, she interned at the Family Law Facilitator’s Office, at the San Diego City Attorney’s Office, and at the U.S. Attorney’s Office before she began clerking for Thorsnes Bartolotta McGuire (“TBM”). While in law school, Karla participated in the Appellate Moot Court Alumni Torts Competition and received a brief writing award for her writing skills. After the competition, she was invited to compete nationally on behalf of USD’s Appellate Moot Court. That same year, she participated in the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition in Los Angeles. The next year, she became a member of USD’s Moot Court Executive Board and was invited to compete in the Federal Bar Moot Court Competition in Washington D.C. At the same time, she continued to clerk at TBM, where she grew her legal skills and developed her passion for plaintiff’s litigation.
Karla officially joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2021 after passing the California bar. Karla enjoys yoga, traveling, and exploring San Diego with her friends and family.
